The whole experience becomes a treasure hunt and they won’t be quite so inclined to complain about every step on the trail. This Hiking Bingo card can act in much the same way. Every time we went on a hike it was more of a beetle treasure hunt for him. One summer my son had an obsession with Beetles thanks to some books he checked out from our local library. The times they hike the best are when they are excited about being out in nature. I’ve done everything to get them to hike from skittles to empty threats. The problem is that I’ve got a litter of four children and sometimes my exclamation “hey guys! lets go hiking today!” is met with an equally exuberant “nooooo!” They hike just fine at times but others I want to leave them to fend for themselves in the wilderness because they are complaining, or moving so slow I can’t even get any exercise. The article even claims that taking kids with ADHD hiking can improve their symptoms. Today I got tagged in this post about how hiking is amazing for your mental health.
